5 Myths About Working With A Personal Stylist

Blog Trio
  1. PERSONAL STYLING/SHOPPING ISN’T FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME

Contrary to popular belief you don’t have to be rich or glamourous or famous or vain to use the services of a personal stylist. Personal styling is for everyone and it’s incredibly empowering!

We show you how to choose outfits that work well for your lifestyle and complement your body shape, accentuating your best bits (we all have them), enhancing your natural beauty and disguising the least favourite parts. Did you know there are six different style personality types too? We often lean towards one but sometimes we’re a blend.

You don’t have to spend a fortune either. Creativity in dressing well is a skill we love to share. With our guidance on which brands and stores will suit you most, you’ll also learn how to shop successfully in the future.

2. IT’S EXPENSIVE

Personal styling is an investment, so I guess it depends how you see things.

We give you the skills, knowledge and confidence to dress as your authentic self and truly express who you are.

Using a personal stylist actually saves money in the long run. How? We slow the process down. We see what’s really going on. Impulse buys are eliminated and you’ll learn how we can do more with less. No more overcrowded wardrobe, no more unworn items gathering dust, no more duplication, no more panic buying!

There’s also the ‘emotional’ cost of not looking and feeling good in what you wear and the impact this may be having in your life.

Our styling services encompass a range of different price points, so whether it’s

  • face to face consultancy on a wardrobe cleanse
  • virtual personal shopping on Zoom

or

  • monthly style subscription direct to your inbox

we aim to make personal styling accessible to everyone.

The Years Of Style preloved boutique champions second hand wear. Here you’ll find garments that are lighter on the purse and naturally, lighter on the planet.

3. I’D LIKE TO GET A FEW POUNDS OFF FIRST

If you’re thinking that a personal styling experience would be great to do once you’ve lost weight, think again. It’s shape rather than size that counts when it comes to dressing to flatter your figure.

At Years Of Style we’re interested in silhouette, not size. We don’t take a blind bit of notice what the label says, that’s a whole other story, but we do care how you feel in your clothes.

Stop postponing your life until (fill in the gap…) happens. Value yourself now. You deserve to gain the confidence and clarity to clothe yourself in love and joy every single day.

4. CAN I BRING A FRIEND ALONG?

Moral support from friends and family can be well meaning of course. But typically they won’t be professionally trained and could even detract from the overall experience.

Clothes are like a second skin and our relationship with what we wear can sometimes come to the surface. Think of personal styling as an individual, intimate service – wardrobe therapy if you like, and you’ll see that it can be deeply personal. We’re great listeners here and will hold a safe and judgement free space for you to acknowledge anything that may come up.

Style parties, workshops and events however are perfect experiences to share with a friend! In fact the more the merrier on those.

5. I DON’T EVEN HAVE A STYLE

Every person has their own style DNA.

It’s to do with how you see yourself – inside and out, your style personality, your colouring, your preferences (e.g. colour or neutrals, poised and elegant or casual and comfy, heels or flats) your body shape and also your lifestyle.

Sometimes your unique style gets lost or becomes hidden by layers of life or labels that we (and/or others) put on ourselves.

Whether you want to discover, define or develop your personal style we’d be delighted to help.
